Judicial Appointments and Collegium: Kaun Judge Banega?

High Courts aur Supreme Court me judge ka selection normal job recruitment jaisa nahi hota. Yahan independence of judiciary ka issue directly linked hai. Isi liye collegium system jaise mechanisms develop hue – jahan senior judges collectively recommend appointments/transfers.

Critics bolte hain: system opaque hai, accountability kam hai, favouritism ka risk hai. Supporters kehte hain: agar executive poori power le le, to ruling party apne pasand ka bench bana degi.

Attempts hue hain all-India judicial commission banane ke, jahan judiciary, executive, maybe civil society representation ho. Courts ne kuch models strike down bhi kiye, basic structure aur independence ke naam pe.

Public ke liye practical baat yeh hai ki appointments debates directly unke daily cases pe impact daalte hain – backlog, diversity, regional balance, specialisation – sab selection process se linked hai. Clearer criteria aur limited transparency aage ka inevitable step lagte hain.
