Rights of Students with Disabilities

Disabled students ke liye sirf sympathy nahi, concrete legal rights exist karte hain – admission, exams, classroom accommodation, transport, campus infrastructure sab me. Laws institutions ko reasonable accommodation aur non-discrimination ka duty impose karte hain.

Examples:

  • Extra exam time, scribe facility, accessible format question papers,
  • Ramps, lifts, accessible toilets,
  • Flexible attendance in genuine medical conditions,
  • Harassment ya ridicule ke against strict action.

Institutions kabhi-kabhi cost ya “others will also ask” argument laate hain, lekin law clear hai ki equality ka matlab same treatment nahi; kabhi-kabhi additional support provide karna hi real equality hota hai.

Parents aur students ko documentation (disability certificates, medical reports) organised rakhna chahiye, aur formal written requests karke record banana chahiye. Agar institution stubborn ho, to regulators, commissions, ya courts approach kiye ja sakte hain.
